FIBERGLASS
PULTRUSION
Fiberglass is the fastest growing window sash and
frame material in North America. The "pultrusion" process
combines continuous glass fibers with thermosetting resins to produce
fiberglass profiles that become custom-dimensioned Alpen Window sashes
and frames. Approximately 60% of pultrusion window sash and frame
material is glass, contributing to low embodied-energy and
environmental source-cost ratings.
Rapidly emerging NFRC values from various North
American manufacturers document the thermal conductivity of pultrusion
fiberglass frames to be the lowest in the industry. Reduced
in conductivity relative to aluminum by a factor of more than 600,
fiberglass outperforms standard wood and vinyl frames by approximately
8% and 15% respectively. Comparative Alpen Window estimates
of overall NFRC U-Value performance are based on the
following composite sash and frame estimates: Wood: 0.27; Vinyl: 0.25
and Fiberglass: 0.23.
Alpen's fiberglass window sashes optimize
Alpenglass performance by providing "triple" pane width.
While sightline profiles are kept to a minimum, glazing pockets in the
range of 1 3/8" to 1 1/2" enable Alpenglass insulating values to
surpass 15, with coincident enhancement of acoustic performance due to
Alpen's wider double air, argon or krypton "interspaces."
